I would assume so since Linny mentioned about being considered just a whore. so those 8 years were of just Linny being just that and wondering if thats all that Xanthe saw of him instead of him just being Linny, not Linny the whore.

Linneus would never run away. He won't confront Xanthe about it either since he already got his "answer". It's a done deal for now until Xanthe makes the next move.
