Roman Bath Rp

I was learning about Roman baths in Classics today and I was picturing dirty things the entire time. /beautiful images

Basically I was thinking of having an interesting rp based on "real" events (very loosely because I want my guy to be completely gay). It will have some history in it, which means I will have to brush up on my knowledge of the Caesars because... well...


EMPEROR NERO SHALL BE MINE.


And he and a Freedman (former slave), or Freeman (non-citizen), or maybe even a noble could be his lover (and his lover should most probably be older than him... maybe).

Nero was the Emperor from AD 54 - AD 68 and was born in AD 37, so he was Emperor basically at the ripe age of 17 (but the Romans would say he was 18 because they're cool like that).

I would prefer that the Rp starts maybe either around the time the last Emperor died (just before his coronation/romans-didn't-like-that-word-but-basically-that's-it) or maybe a year later when he's settled in to being an Emperor a little bit.


Nero LOVED the arts... with a passion that burned like the Great Fire of Rome (AD 64; which he did nothing to stop by the way because he thought it was beautiful. Yeah).

So I should probably mention that he's also batshit crazy.

And his lover should not be Christian, because he liked to impale Christians and light their heads on fire as if they were giant "Roman Candles." Yeah. Great guy.


Why would I want to rp a sexy story with a batshit crazy Roman emperor that may first take place in the Roman Baths? Because I can!!


I need ideas for characters that will not be "canon," lol.

Okay, so I'm thinking maybe I'll be a Freedman, who's pretty SERIOUS BUSINESS. Hmm...maybe he just got released from slavery and is trying to make a new life for himself? And it will be all 'NO, NERO, I DO NOT WANT TO TAP THAT.

okies, I shall post about Roman Baths here tomorrow so you can get an idea of what they look like, how they functioned back in those times and stuff like that, mkay?

Then we can make our characters and start rping ^^

Public Baths
• separate men's and women's bathing (Men's area was much bigger)
• 2-3 pm was when Men would go to the baths (after work) and would generally stay there until dusk or up to 7 hours
• Women would bathe in the morning (and had to pay more to bathe)
• Prostitutes would hang around the bathhouse because it was a good place to get business
• mixed bathing (between men and women) was frowned upon but still happened

Bathing Process
• In the Changeroom:
>>>Leave your slave to watch your stuff, or pay someone to watch your stuff (people could and would steal your clothes)
• Sports!
>>>Men would participate in sports, ball games (heavy on the pun) while they bathed
• Lifted weights (manly!)

Process cont.
• scrape off grease, dirt, sweat with a special tool BEFORE you even got to the bath.
• went into a small "warm" room to get remaining dirt off (small pool for washing, more like a sauna)
• went into "hot" room (heated floors) which had a tub of hot water (literal hot tub)
• after a good long soak, they would go into the "cold" pool
