Yep, I suppose so. Though they'd have much more reason to be on her side than their stepfather's, she could be an entirely unpleasant and repulsive woman.

Yes, or there could be something like her being in love with a bishop or something, so the only way to publicly get around having to deal with the sons is to do have something related with them along with their father.

Or maybe she was just opportunistic. Her child which she got from the first marriage was a burden set on her alone and she resented him, and the added stepson only made it worse. So she dumped them both on that last husband and set him up so that she could have his monies.
